San Francisco Disco Lounge
We were tasked with remodeling a basement space that was being underutilized and left our client wanting to reimagine this lower area with a vibrant, club like - atmosphere. We referenced 70’s & 80’s lounges, clubs and bars - something that our client really connected to. What started off as a small project, amassed into a large scope renovation. The existing closet was not being used and the room was filled with awkward soffits. We approached the design with cleaning up the existing architecture and adding architecture that made more sense.
We knew we wanted to add a bar and utilized the existing closet space to completely re-work the space. We always approach our projects with intention and that the interiors feel at one with the volume of the space. We added a barrel vault at the entry to give you a sense of wonder as you come down the stairs. You are greeted with a custom neon sign and handsome powder room that we also renovated. A custom green wool carpet was made specifically for the staircase, creating a soft landing as you come down the stairs. Mixing unique materials is a passion of ours - we built a palette of cork, greyed oak, blue quartzite and tinted mirror. This mix of textures, warm & cool tones and finishes creates a space that feels lived in - yet modern.
There’s an unexpected space hidden behind the bar, behind a secret door. This room has custom floor cushions for lounging and having a drink. Our client loved the idea of a secret door integrated with our bar millwork, so we added a push latch - which allows the door to be fully hidden when not open. The whole room was rewired with AV, lighting and soundproofing for movie watching. The bar is ready for entertaining with fridge drawers, a sink and custom walnut & glass shelving for bottle display.
We selected furniture pieces that complemented the interior finishes - a sleek vintage sofa in a lush crushed velvet, soft blown smoke glass tables, marble side tables and murano glass wall sconces. The space is low and lounge-like, creating a large seating area for guests. We added full height drapery in a rich velvet to create a sense of drama and accentuate the high ceilings. This space is moody, yet refined and will be the entertainment center of the home for years to come.
